I’m not yet sure what’s involved, or where, or when….But I am officially a “Lady of Harley”

The patches and badges declaring my membership arrived today, along with a very handy, Motorcycle Touring map book.

My motivation for joining HOG after so many years of avoiding membership, of what is probably one of the oldest and largest Motorcycle Clubs in the world, is to try and build some meaningful connections with riders who share my passion. It has been many years since I attended a good old fashioned motorcycle rally, and I think before I become too old to play silly games in a field, or sleep in a tent on a hard floor, I need to do it again.

I’ve also rediscovered an enthusiasm for a Motorcycle that is as primitive as it is charming, and that has a genuine character that is not engineered, or designed, but inherent, through more than a hundred years of continuous production.

Over the last couple of years I have severed some social ties, and removed myself from some social networks. Probably because I believed that to be in my best interest. However in recent weeks I’ve been forced to evaluate the important things in my life, and it looks like my approach may not always have been correct. I’m always happy to be be put right, and as usual I find solid guidance from the Greek Genius Epicurus….

“Of all the means to insure happiness throughout the whole life, by far the most important is the acquisition of friends.” –
